Last essay

I can honestly say that I have learned more in this class than I have learned in my 14 years of attending school. The Wall Street Journal was more affective than reading straight from a text book. When you read something from a school text book you don't feel as close to what they are talking about as when you read a newspaper article. It's current news that is happening as the days go on. When reading a textbook it's bland and full of a ton of fluff that people generally skip over. I have found that my study habits for this class have actually worked as I cut the articles out and read them over before the quizzes. It gives me insight to not only ace the quiz but insight in life in general.

I don't think I plan to renew my subscription right now, only because I am going back down to Miami for the summer. But I do think that I might renew it for next semester. I like the way I could open it and find out tons of things that you wouldn't hear by ear and I like being able to tell my friends and family things that they haven't even heard yet.

I loved this course, this is the one course that I would talk about almost every week to my friends and family. I don't think anything should really change. I loved the teaching method and using the WSJ instead of a textbook. Seeing things hands on was great as well. It was by far the best course I have taken.

I do plan on pursuing a career in Communications. I actually had an epiphany that I would be famous some day. I figure if these youtube.com users can get well known, I am going to as well. I did have aspirations to become a news anchor but as that seems to be dying right now, I believe I'm going to try to pursue a career as a television host.

It'll happen. Keep the name Michelle Russo in mind. It'll get big.

Social Networking

I want to start off by saying that I am currently on a cell phone driving from orlando to miami to post this essay I have a myspace, facebook and twitter. I don't spend any time on myspace anymore but I do use facebook at least once or twice a week. I'm not going to lie I do think if you had to pay 5 dollars a year for facebook many people would do it. Not just teenagers but people. I believe that it helps keep everyone in touch especially after high school and college graduation. Now and days people use text and words to communicate and sound is no longer really used. I have talked to people about these social networks and most of the events they get invited to comes from all of these social networks.

So I do think that I would pay for a site especially such as Facebook. It helps to keep in touch with friends and family that I wouldn't generally call or "text" as we do so much now and days.

Essay 2

If I was deserted on an island I would most likely take a movie that can make me feel every emotion in one. I would want to laugh, cry, yell etc. I can’t exactly figure out which movie would make it for me right now, except for maybe the Lion King. I know it’s a cartoon and is directed for little kids, but my heart is set on a little kids level. I love the emotional attachment you get to Simba, the lion that we follow throughout the story. You watch him grow up and take the place of his father. The story is about a lion whose uncle wants to kill the boys father and take over the land. The little lion gets into trouble and the uncle takes this into affect as he makes the little lion believe he killed his father. The movie then picks up to more of a comedy when you meet Timon and Pumba, a warthog and a meerkat.

I prefer to watch a movie both in the theater and at my house. I like to watch it in theaters because you have a big screen and a big chair that forces you to sit up and watch the screen in front of you. There are no distractions such as a break for food or a messy bed, just you and the big screen. Yet I also like to watch movies from my home. I don’t have noisy children and small LCD lights shining all over the dark room which makes it feel as if the lights hadn’t even turned off.

I watched a bit of the Academy Awards. I found that they did a good job with the video editing of the opening for the different sections. As I talked about in class, I liked how they included Wall-e which won an academy award for best animated picture. The opening of the animated picture was Wall-e holding an academy award and the ballot for the winner. He looks at it as if he has no idea what it is. We later come to find that he is the winner for this section. I didn’t finish watching the entire thing due to the fact that it was very long and I was very tired. But from what I saw it seemed to be very good.

Essay 1

Prior to the Wall Street Journal I honestly haven’t read the newspaper that often. I did however take journalism and newspaper class in high school. I read the Sun Sentinel and the Miami Herald at least once every day of the week. I do like the layout and the setup of the Sun Sentinel the best. I feel like the stories are stories that are interesting for a wide range of an audience.

I honestly love newspapers. I love the way you can quickly skim through articles without having to click through millions of stupid tabs and back spaces. I like the stories I read to be printed and in my hand. I like them to be there for me to be able to pick and choose what I want to read. I don’t think anyone in the world could live without them because if we didn’t have newspapers and the power shut off for the entire world we would be in complete chaos. I mean technically these newspapers wouldn’t be able to print. But they would have the current news before the power shut off. Anyway, a newspaper is more reliable than a power outlet.

I think my learning experience would be greatly influenced by a new teaching method. It’s more up to date than a text book that is printed a few years or year before the class starts. The WSJ is up to date and current with the latest news on everything related to communications and more. I do think the WSJ will meet my expectations. It will open a new leaf in my chapter and help me to understand the world of newspaper writing and the styles of different writers. I will be able to incorporate what I read into my own writing.
